Now that you have identified the things that you want to include on your path, you may wonder what it actually looks like incorporating those things into your life. You may even feel that some of these things are in a completely opposite direction to what you’ve done so far.
Jumping ship may not be the best action to take, so let’s consider some of the options available.
There are really 3 ways in which you can bring more of what you want in a job or a project into your experience. The purpose of highlighting these, is to bring into your awareness that there are multiple ways in which you can have more of what resonates with your heart in your experience, especially if one thinks that the only way to do so, is to make a complete career shift. Remember, the situations below are career-specific but the concepts can be applied elsewhere in your life as well.
The first is through bringing more of the elements of what you desire into you current experience, or what I like to call augmentation. In this case it can mean that you stay in your current job, but because of your focus on what it is that you desire, you actively have more of that in your experience. This can be due to the lens through which you see the world, where those things are now highlighted to you in your experience, where previously you may not have acknowledged them. Also, the more you put your energy into your directed creation, the more of those situations are created. For example, if your heart is filled by being of assistance to others, and you open yourself up to become more of who you Truly are in essence, more opportunities can present themselves to you at work, but also outside of the work context where you can be of assistance to others.
You may think of starting a new committee or club and in that way augment your day job with more things that resonate with who you Truly are. Of course, in this circumstance the assumption is that your emotional climate is a match to the emotional climate of your workplace. Yes, just like another living being, a collective of people also have a range of emotional states within which it exists, and as such you may be in resonance with one group of people and not in resonance with another. That’s easy to think of practically – you can see yourself joining certain groups, societies, clubs, teams or organisations while you are in disagreement with what other groups represent. The same is true for a company, and if you are not compatible with the range within which it exists, and you are stable in your emotional climate, its range must either change to become a match to yours or it will become irrelevant to your experience. And in that case, an augmentation alone is not the only possible effect of a changed emotional climate, but a bigger shift will come into your experience, and the relationship will have to come to an end one way or another.
The second manner in which you can bring more of what you want into you experience in a career context is through supplementation. With supplementation you are looking to remain in your current job or role, and maybe through the types of circumstances you are not able to augment your current situation sufficiently, so you may decide to start a project on the side, and in that way supplement your exposure to the things that you are passionate about, which you can use as an additional means of earning an income, or not. For example, let’s say that you are really passionate about baking and you are currently working as a clerk in a firm, and through augmentation you organise bake days and are the foodie of the office where people come to ask you about the type of cake that would work well for nana’s 80th birthday. Now, you may feel that the augmentation has been wonderful, but you want to spend even more of your time baking! So you decide to bake in the evenings or over the weekend and sell those at the office, or at church, or your local grocery store. You get to do more of what you love, and it is allowing money to flow into your experience in the process. Supplementation can either evolve naturally from augmentation, or it can be a directed creation in itself. For example, you can either decide to start baking out specifically in your spare time, or by being the known baker at work, people may request you to bake things for them, and in that way it becomes a supplementation.
The third manner in which you can increase your exposure to the things that you desire is through substitution. In this case you are replacing all, or a part of your current job or activities with a new one. The extent of the replacement really depends on how much change you wanted and how much change you’ve allowed to come into your experience; therefore it can range from something very similar to your current job but in an environment which you are perhaps a better match to. Or it can be that you are changing careers completely; stepping into a new job, or perhaps starting something new, or going back to school in preparation of an anticipated change. Similar to how supplementation can come about, substitution can grow organically from supplementation into something that replaces your current job in part, or in full, or you can have the desire to do something that you are passionate about fulltime, which therefore has substitution as an effect of the direction of the creation. For example, you can be so in love with baking that you are gravitating towards doing it full time; and therefore substitution is a natural progression of the creation of that reality.
It’s important enough to remind you that substitution should not be a target in itself (i.e. as a result of wanting to get away from where you are); for if it is, you are approaching it from a place where resistance is dominant. And moving from that place you are not making an empowered move when you are making big changes, which very often lead to a place where the emotional state is perpetuated just in a different place or in a different form. For example, if your emotional state is predominantly one of worrying, and you decide to leave this job in an effort to reduce your worrying about everything at work, then you may find other things to be the subject of your worry. Now you may worry about how long you can survive on your savings before you get a new job; and then worrying whether you will get a new job. You may worry about what the family may say about your leaving your job etc. Because the internal world was not cleaned up before making the move; the resistance will show itself even in this changed environment or circumstances.
